Mythical Creatures emerge on BBC Sounds
Mythical Creatures is 7digital’s new audio series for Radio 4 and BBC Sounds.
Across ten episodes, fantasy writer Rhianna Pratchett makes a quest to discover creatures of myth and folklore from around the British Isles and find out what they reveal about our history and ourselves.
Rhianna - daughter of Discworld creator Sir Terry Pratchett - seeks the human realities that inspired black dogs, selkies, giants, dragons, wulvers, hobs, redcaps, mermaids, kelpies and banshees.
Mythical Creatures airs on BBC Radio 4 from Monday 18th December and the whole series is available on BBC Sounds, now.
The series features magical contributions from gifted storytellers and experts on myth and folklore.
Original music is by LA-based composer Ben MacDougall and the series was produced by Sarah Harrison and Lorna Skingley.
Rhianna and her microphone-wielding team travelled to historic locations including Bungay in Suffolk, Penshaw Monument in Sunderland, Hermitage Castle in the Scottish Borders, sandy Conwy Bay and mountainous Meirionnydd in Wales.
